Sanshan Guild Hall was established in the first year of Xuantong Era of Qin Dynasty (1909) by fruit merchants of Fujian Province. They got together for business and offered sacrifice to the Queen of Heaven, so it is also called the Tianhou Palace.

Sanshan Guild Hall is the only well-preserved building of late Qin Dynasty in Shanghai, and also the surviving site of The third armed uprising of Shanghai workers. The entire building is unique, elegant, and full of artistic value, it was classified a municipal-level cultural relic designated in 1959.
